India Overflight & Landing Permits: Procedures, Requirements & FAQ
Whether you operate a business jet, cargo flight, or commercial airline planning to fly through Indian airspace, obtaining an overflight or landing permit from the India Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) / Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is mandatory. The permit confirms there are no political or security objections to your aircraft, airline, or country of origin/destination, and that no outstanding navigation fees are owed to the ATC authority.
India is a member of the Chicago Convention. Flight and crew conditions must closely adhere to ICAO general rules of international air traffic, including regulations for the movement of soldiers, equipment, supplies, and dangerous items. Prior Permission Required (PPR) applies to all private, charter, scheduled, non-scheduled, passenger, and cargo flights — whether for a technical stop or a traffic landing.
It is highly recommended to consult with a professional aviation services company to assist in obtaining the necessary permits and ensuring full compliance with the regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority of India.
